NiroHelp lets you choose how each doc’s web address is built. The setting is NiroHelp \u2192 Settings \u2192 Documentation \u2192 Permalinks<\/strong>, a list of nine structures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first part of the address<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The first part \u2014 usually docs<\/em>, documentation<\/em> or help<\/em> \u2014 is the slug of the page you picked under Documentation \u2192 Pages \u2192 Docs archive page<\/strong>. It is not a setting of its own. If no page is selected, it falls back to docs<\/code>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Renaming that page’s slug therefore moves your entire knowledge base. Do it deliberately, and refresh your permalinks afterwards (see below).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With an archive page slugged docs<\/code>, the five structures that keep it look like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Picking the right one<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

  • One product line?<\/strong> The plain docs \/ doc<\/code> structure is cleanest.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Several products on one site?<\/strong> Put the product first, so the address says what the article is about.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Organized by topic<\/strong> \u2014 Setup, Billing, Integrations? Use a topic-based structure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
  • Want the knowledge base to read as a normal section of the site?<\/strong> Use one of the root-level structures with no docs\/<\/code> prefix.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

    After you change the setting<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    You have to refresh your permalinks yourself.<\/strong> Saving the NiroHelp setting is not enough \u2014 until you refresh, doc addresses built under the new structure return “page not found”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Do one of these:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      \n
    • Go to Settings \u2192 Permalinks<\/strong> and click Save Changes<\/strong>. You do not have to change anything on that screen; opening it and saving is the whole step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n
    • Or deactivate and reactivate NiroHelp.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n

      Old addresses stop working<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      There is no automatic redirect from the previous structure. Before you change this on a live site, update any external links or set up redirects with a redirection plugin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      Topics and products are not archive pages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

      Nothing lists a topic on its own page. Opening a topic or product address sends the visitor to the first doc<\/strong> in that topic instead.
