Readers do not have to be logged in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Votes can only be cast from your own site &#8211; a vote arriving from anywhere else is rejected &#8211; so the buttons are not open to being scripted from another website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is recorded<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two running totals on the doc: upvotes and downvotes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Nothing about the voter is recorded.<\/strong> No name, no account, no address, no identifier of any kind. Only the two counters exist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">There is no duplicate-vote protection<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is worth being explicit about, because it is easy to assume otherwise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">After someone votes, the buttons on that page are disabled. That is the whole of it. No cookie is set and nothing is remembered. <strong>Reloading the page re-enables the buttons, and the same visitor can vote as often as they like.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Treat the counts as a rough signal of engagement rather than a poll result. If you need one vote per reader, that needs custom work \u2014 and even then, anything short of requiring a login is per-browser rather than per-person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Using the numbers<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Two things worth doing with them:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Find articles to rewrite.<\/strong> Sort by downvotes and start at the worst.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Find your best articles.<\/strong> Sort by upvotes and feature them on a landing page or in onboarding.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Both counts are columns on <strong>NiroHelp \u2192 Docs<\/strong>, and <strong>Doc helpfulness<\/strong> &#8211; the share of votes that were positive &#8211; is one of the eight headline figures on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nirohelp.com\/docs\/reports-analytics\/the-dashboard\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">dashboard<\/a>. Docs readers voted down get their own dashboard panel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Resetting votes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There is no reset button. Clearing the counters for a doc, or across the whole library, needs a developer or a database tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Moving a doc to the trash and restoring it keeps the counts.
