They appear in the ordinary <strong>Publish<\/strong> box<br \/>\non the ticket editor. Two transitions happen automatically; the rest are<br \/>\nyours to make.<\/p>\n<h2>The eight statuses<\/h2>\n<table>\n<thead>\n<tr>\n<th>Status<\/th>\n<th>Meaning<\/th>\n<\/tr>\n<\/thead>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Open<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Just submitted. Nobody has replied yet.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>In Progress<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>An agent has replied. The ball is in the client&#8217;s court.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Waiting<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>The client has replied. The ball is in the agent&#8217;s court.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>On Hold<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Paused for an internal reason \u2014 waiting on a third party.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Resolved<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>An agent marked it resolved.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Reopened<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>For a ticket picked back up after being resolved.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Cancelled<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Closed without a resolution.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Closed<\/strong><\/td>\n<td>Fully closed; no further action expected.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<h2>The two automatic transitions<\/h2>\n<p>Both happen when someone posts a reply:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Client replies \u2192 Waiting<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Agent replies \u2192 In Progress<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The flip is skipped when:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>The ticket is already Resolved, Closed or Cancelled.<\/strong> Those are final: a<br \/>\n  client replying to a resolved ticket does <em>not<\/em> reopen it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Settings \u2192 Tickets \u2192 Behaviour \u2192 Auto-transition status on reply<\/strong> is<br \/>\n  unticked. That is the global off switch, and it is on by default.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>What is never automatic<\/h2>\n<p>Nothing moves a ticket to <strong>Resolved<\/strong>, <strong>On Hold<\/strong>, <strong>Cancelled<\/strong>, <strong>Closed<\/strong><br \/>\nor <strong>Reopened<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Despite its name, <strong>Reopened is never applied by the plugin<\/strong>. A client replying<br \/>\nto a resolved ticket leaves it resolved. An agent has to set Reopened by hand.<br \/>\nAll five are agent decisions, made in the <strong>Publish<\/strong> box.<\/p>\n<h2>The note in the conversation<\/h2>\n<p>Every status change the plugin sees adds a line to the conversation:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Ticket status changed from <strong>Resolved<\/strong> to <strong>Reopened<\/strong> by <strong>Jane Cooper<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>It is posted by <em>Support Bot<\/em> and names whoever was signed in, falling back to<br \/>\n&#8220;Support Bot&#8221; for an automatic change with nobody signed in.<\/p>\n<p>Two behaviours to expect from it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Moving a ticket to the trash adds nothing and emails nobody.<\/strong> Trash is not<br \/>\n  one of the eight statuses, so deleting a ticket never sends a &#8220;resolved&#8221;<br \/>\n  email.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A bulk edit records one note, not one per ticket.<\/strong> The same is true of an<br \/>\n  importer. Do not rely on these notes as a complete audit trail.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Status-change emails<\/h2>\n<p>Only one status change sends an email: moving a ticket to <strong>Resolved<\/strong> mails<br \/>\nthe client.
